Choosing a bikini for your body shape

Author: Catherine Dunn Finding the right bikini for your body is an annual ordeal. You can nearly always guarantee that if the bottoms fit, the top will be too small, and if the top fits, the bottoms will make your backside look massive. I've got some top tips for you on choosing the right swimwear to flatter your body shape.
Pear shaped
The pear shape is said to be British women's most common body type and it just means you have a larger bottom half than top half. It doesn't sound a very flattering shape, but actually it just means you are more voluptuous on the bottom half and as a plus you probably have a lovely flat stomach too! If you want to draw attention away from your bottom half, a great way to do this is by wearing a pretty and detailed bikini top to draw attention to your bust. By maximising your bust it'll be easy for you to look sexy and voluptuous in your bikini! Try to avoid bandeau styles as these will only minimise your curves. Bikini bottoms that cut across the widest part of your hips will look the most flattering on you. Choose bikini bottoms with side ties so you can adjust them to the most flattering position for you, but keep away from boy shorts as these will make your hips look bigger. Always make sure the bottom half of your bikini fits well, as there's nothing guaranteed to make you look bigger than ill-fitting or too tight bikini bottoms.
Apple shaped
If you're a classic apple shape, then you probably have a less well defined waist and smaller hips. Actually it's not that you don't have a small waist, it's just that you have such slim hips! On the bonus side you probably have a great bust and lovely long legs too! So focus on these and create the illusion of curves by picking bikinis with string ties, ruffles, belt, or pretty bow details. Try to steer clear of too small a bikini bottom as these won't flatter your shape, instead go for bikini bottoms with high cut legs that lengthen your legs and draw attention away from your waist. Sexy boy shorts would also work well on you. Avoid halter necks because these will just lengthen your top half, also steer clear of horizontal stripes as these will just draw attention back to your waist. If you feel you need to cover up your tummy chose a tankini or swimsuit in a nice simple style and a pretty pattern.
Hourglass
If you're lucky enough to have an hourglass figure then you can flaunt it in just about any style and that includes even the teeniest of bikinis! Sexy high cut bikini bottoms will look good on you and will make your legs look long. Just make sure you don't squeeze those curves into too small a bikini because you don't want any wardrobe malfunctions on the beach!
Slim or atheletic
A slim or atheletic figure may lack some of the curves of an hourglass, but as a bonus you'll have a slim waist and a slight figure - lucky you! Bikini tops with ruffles or pretty prints will look flattering on you. A halter neck is also a good look as it'll help to accentuate your bust, you could also try bikini tops with extra padding for maximum effect! You'll look great in boy shorts and bikinis with tie sides which will help to give you a curvier look. Try to avoid boring mono block swimsuits as these will be the least flattering for you - pretty pattern and lots of feminine detail are the key for you!
Top tips for looking good on the beach!
The following are not strictly body types, but they're probably amongst the biggest issues we women face when picking the right bikini or swimwear, so we've given them their very own sections!
Big bust
If this is you and you're lucky enough to be a curvy lady, then a good choice for a larger bust is a halter neck bikini because they can give you good support as well as a sexy cleavage! It's probably best to avoid strapless bandeau styles as they won't give you much support and can look unflattering. Likewise bikinis with tiny tops are best avoided as they won't provide you with enough coverage and you could well find yourself popping out all over! If you have real problems finding bikinis to fit both your top and bottom halves, then trying buying them separately so you can mix and match sizes. If support is a problem for you, then look out for underwired bikini tops or tank top bikinis with wide straps which will give you that all important extra support.
Small bust
Ladies with smaller busts are lucky because they can wear lots of different styles, including bandeau styles which only really look amazing on you! Make sure you check out bikinis with ruffles and tiny tri top bikinis because only you can wear these well! Go for bright colours on the beach this summer, and check out the Brazilian style bikinis which generally have smaller tops making them perfect for you. For extra impact, try bikinis with padding. It's always a good idea to choose a bikini that has adjustable straps to ensure a good fit because loose bikini tops are definitely not a flattering look.
Now for the rest!
If there are any specific bits and pieces you want to conceal or hide, take a look at our checklist below on how to deal with the most common body shape issues: Short legs - pick a bikini bottom or swimsuit cut high on the leg as these will help make your legs look longer. It's probably best to avoid boy shorts and bikinis with skirts as these will just draw attention down making your legs look shorter. Short body - again, you'll find a high cut leg is flattering and will help to elongate your legs. Also wearing a bikini that has a patterned top and solid colour bottoms can help to lengthen the body. Try to avoid boy shorts and bikinis with skirts because by drawing attention down these will only make you look shorter. Long body - you've got the opposite problem here! You're probably a complete clothes horse and everything looks great on you. In fact bikinis were made for you because they'll help to break up your long body. You can wear bikinis with lots of lovely detail at the bust and hip, plus boy shorts will also look good on you. Just try to avoid swimsuits with vertical sripes or in dark mono block colours as these will make your body look longer. Instead go for horizontal stripes or some lovely bright summer colours. Bandeau bikini tops can also help by giving width to your bust Big bottom - if you want to minimise your bottom it's best to avoid boy shorts, very skimpy bottoms, or anything with too many ruffles or detail, as these will just draw attention to this area. Instead try a bigger bikini bottom in a solid colour with a full side as ties will just emphasise this area. If you're really conscious of your bottom you might want to consider a bikini with a little skirt. But you can also draw attention away from your bottom half with a pretty detailed bikini top - ruffles are good here, in fact anything that emphasises your top half will help to draw attention away from your bottom. No waist - like the apple shape which we talked about earlier, it's not that you don't have a waist, just that your slim hips draw attention away from it. But you can create the illusion of curves with a bikini that has ruffles, bows or detail at the hips. If you have a small bust, a strapless bandeau bikini top will also look good on you. Just try to avoid swimsuits in a solid colour or with horizontal stripes as these will be the least flattering for you. Big thighs - you can draw attention away from your legs by emphasising your top half, or by wearing high legged bikinis. A bikini bottom with the string tied high on the leg will look very flattering on you! Wide shoulders - the key to looking good for you is to balance out your body, so you want to emphasise your bottom half. Avoid plunging necklines and teeny tiny bikini bottoms because these will not be flattering to your body shape and will emphasise your shoulders. Instead opt for bikini bottoms in bright colours, bold prints, and with ties or details at the hip as these will draw attention to your bottom half and help to balance out your shoulders. Short waist - lengthen your body with bikini bottoms that have a low waist or are low rise. Also bikini bottoms with a belt at the hips will look good on you.
Last but not least!
Just remember to find the perfect bikini or swimsuit before you go on your hols. Prices at holiday destinations can be very high and sizes can vary widely to UK sizes. Plus you don't want to waste any of your precious holiday time hunting down the perfect bikini - so make sure you take it with you!

Picking a Cocktail Dress for a Social Event

Author: Tammy Ussery-Bakhtiari

A blue and white envelope just arrived in your mailbox. Inside is an invitation to your friend's house warming party next week. She is going to have wine, cheese, hor dours, and entertainment. It's going to be a dazzling event and you know you should dress up, but you have no idea what to wear. Deciding what to wear to any social event can be overwhelming, especially when you have party favors, decorating, and baking to worry about--in addition to your day-to-day work. Fortunately, an attractive cocktail dress is suitable for many occasions. If you are looking for versatility, the little black dress is a classic. It's attractive, simple, and stylish. You can wear it to almost any evening occasion, and you can personalize it with high heels, jewelry, and a handbag. And the little black dress can be quite attractive--just think about Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman,” wear she wears a black cocktail dress with lace trim. When you are shopping in search of the perfect little black dress, pay attention to the small details (below): What to Look for in a Little Black Dress : - Length. The dress should hit at the thinnest part of your leg above the knee. - Cut. Make sure the dress flatters your body type. The dress should accentuate a woman's curves and waist, but never ever be too tight. - Fabric. Jersey fabric is comfortable and stretchy, but it may not hold its shape. Invest in a dress with a soft, flattering fabric such as silk or satin. If you prefer new, trendy styles, try an updated version of the little black dress with a modern touch. The Little, Black Dress with a Modern Touch : - Sleeve length: Try a sexy strapless dress. Or, try a dress with long sleeves for the winter-time. - Tights: Wear patterned tights. Or, wear opaque tights, which are very trendy right now. Note: Opaque tights may dress down an outfit. - V-shape: Try on dresses with a plunging V in the front to accentuate your attributes. Also, V-shaped backs can be very sexy and sophisticated. - Lace: A black dress with lace can be very attractive and elegant. If the dress is very detailed, keep your accessories limited and wear classic makeup (red lipstick, mascara, and eye-liner). Cocktail Dresses: If you want to avoid black altogether, try on cocktail dresses! Cocktail dresses can be silver, plumb, gold, cream, etcetera. Wearing a stylish, colorful evening dress will make you more memorable, and it is much more festive than black. For the wintertime, try on dresses that are dark red, dark blue, ruby, gold, purple, or emerald green. Choosing a Cocktail Dress : To choose a unique, sexy cocktail dress , get an idea of what kinds of dresses exist. A simple online search works well. Consider dresses with lace, patterns, sequins, and satin. One-sleeved dresses and metallic are also popular, so don't shy away from them, Also, look for rich fabrics such as velvet and silk. If you are unsure what kinds of social events and special occasions call for a cocktail dress, use the suggested guidelines below: Occasions where a cocktail dress is recommended : - Cruise ships - Work-related parties (make sure the dress is knee-length and not too short) - Semi-formal - New Years - Anniversary parties - Holiday parties - Charity events - Dinner at an expensive restaurant Occasions where a cocktail dress may be worn : - Prom (cocktail dress designers make great, flirty 2009 prom dresses ) - Class reunions - Evening weddings - Dinner parties (ask the host in advance) - Evenings out (to the theater, the ballet, or the Opera. 7 Pearl Jewelry Terms You Must Know

Author: Pearl Classic

When shopping for pearl jewelry , whether online or in a jewelry store, you are going to see and hear some industry terms that you may not be that familiar with. You’ll be told that the nacre of this pearl is thick, it’s luster is excellent, it’s surface is clean and that is why it retails for $999. The only thing you might recognize from that description is the price! So educating yourself on the terminology used to describe pearl jewelry before you begin shopping will allow you to accurately compare pearls from one another, understand their value, and can lead you to making a very good purchase on quality pearls. You may even end up saving a few dollars just by knowing a few terms! Cultured vs Natural Let’s start with knowing the difference between Cultured Pearls and Natural Pearls. While both are real pearls, the way they are created is what sets them apart. Cultured pearls are harvested on pearl farms in controlled conditions. With the assistance of pearl farmers, they insert an object into the mollusk to jump start the creation of the pearl. The end result is still an authentic pearl that carries the same properties as a natural pearl. Natural pearls by contrast are those found in their natural environment. They are pearls that have been stumbled upon by chance. Therefore, natural pearl jewelry may carry a heavier price tag than cultured pearl jewelry because of the unique, natural quality they have. Cultured pearls tend to be more affordable because of their ability to be mass produced. However, each is still very similar in their qualities and authenticity. Shape As you study the pearls that interest you, pay close attention to the shape of the pearl. The closer each pearl is to a perfect sphere or being perfectly round, the higher in value the jewelry will be. Round pearls are pretty rare to come across and only account for a small percentage of the pearls coming out of pearl farms. From there, you will see the term Near-round to describe pearls that are not quite perfectly round, but close to it. Oval pearls look just as they sound. Button style pearls are pearls that appear to be thinner, or squashed by comparison. Drop pearls have the appearance of a tear drop. Lastly are Baroque pearls. These pearls are irregular in shape and are non-symmetrical as well. In fact, the actual shapes of a baroque pearl can range from simply being semi-round to stick or cross shaped. Many times however, a strand of baroque pearls will be similar to each other thus creating a uniform strand. Incidentally, Tahitian and South Sea baroque pearls are also very unique as the process to create them takes much longer. Therefore, their value may be considered greater. Nacre / Mother-of-Pearl Nacre, or mother-of-pearl, is a secretion of calcium carbonate and conchiolin that a mollusk will release to cover an object such as a grain of sand that has entered the mollusk. This object acts as an irritant and triggers the secretion to begin. Layers and layers of nacre will build around this object and leads to the production of a pearl. In fact, a real pearl can be identified by its layers of nacre present. The thicker the nacre, the higher quality and more durable your pearl is against nicks, scratches and overall wear and tear. Luster Luster is a term used to describe a pearls ability to reflect light. The more translucent each layer of the pearl, the greater its ability to reflect light. You can visually determine a pearls luster by its ability to show your reflection or have shine to it. If the pearl is dull or really doesn’t have a reflection, then it is considered to be poor in quality. Surface A pearls surface can be described as clean, blemished or marked. The surface is basically how you see the pearl. Looking at it, do you see any marks or discolorations in its coating or color? If you do, these are the pearls blemishes or marks. If a pearl does not appear to have any, then it is described as clean. A pearl with a clean surface is considered to have a higher value than a pearl with a blemished surface. If you have your eyes set on a strand of clean pearls, be sure that the strand is uniform and that each pearl has a clean surface. While blemished pearls are considered to be lesser in value, they are still considered to be of good quality. Pearls whose surface is so poor generally do not make it to the jewelry stage. Color Colors of pearls vary from bright whites to rich shades of black. The color of the pearl will depend on the types of pearls you are looking at. For instance Akoya pearls generally come in whites with cream or pink overtones. Tahitian pearls on the other hand are most likely black or shades of gray. South Sea pearls meanwhile are generally associated with golden pearls. The color of pearls really doesn’t affect the pricing of it. However you will want to be sure that all of the other quality factors still apply to the pearls you are considering. Your choice of colored pearls should be chosen carefully to compliment your skin tone. As a rule of thumb, people with tan or darker skin tones tend to find darker pearls or pearls with cream overtones to compliment their skin best. Women with lighter, fairer skin will find that pearls with pink or rose overtones work well. Grades With so many terms used to describe pearl jewelry, it’s not a wonder we felt the need to write this article! However, all of these characteristics can be combined and defined with a simple grade. Yes, pearls receive grades based upon their quality. There are three grades that can be assigned to a pearl ranging from A to AAA. A pearl with a grade of AAA means these pearls are of the highest quality and greatest value. It means all of the characteristics listed out above are of the best conditioning. You can expect these types of pearls to be higher in price. Pearl jewelry given a grade of AA is your middle of the road pearl. The pearls generally will be round or near-round shape and may have slight blemishes here and there. These and the rest of the qualities will either be considered of high quality or slightly below. Lastly, pearl jewelry given an A generally means you’ll find a few more blemishes, a lower luster quality, and either a near round or semi-round shape. It is important to note that pearls with a lower grade do not necessarily mean they are not worth the investment. They are still quality, authentic pearls that have been matched with each other to create a uniform, cohesive set of pearl jewelry. Perhaps you may not be able to remember all of the terminology, but knowing the significance of a pearls grade will ensure you will be able to select a quality piece of jewelry that is worth the asking price. Now you hopefully will be able to go into a jewelry shop, online or off, and will have a clear advantage to make a smart purchasing decision. Couple this information with knowing the different types of pearls available and you will be all set!

Short Hairstyles for Thin Hair

Author: Tim Faber

First, let’s have a quick definition of what having fine or thin hair really means. Basically, the ‘fine’ in the phrase refers to the diameter of each individual hair strand. This means that you can have fine hair which looks thick because the strands are packed more into each square inch of your scalp.
Or, you can have fine hair which looks really thin because the hair strands themselves are already thin in the first place – and they are sparsely populated within each square inch in the scalp. So depending on whether you have thin, fine hair or thick, fine hair, the best way to have a head start in choosing the short hair styles for fine hair that will suit you best would be with your hair cut.
Always consult your stylist and tell them the look that you would like to achieve, starting from maybe the length of hair that you would like to have. Take Your Pick from these Short Hair Styles for Fine Hair Now, if like the convenience of having short, fine hair that is pretty much low maintenance, here are the short hair styles that you can choose from:
Feather Cut for Short, Fine Hair - To achieve this short hair style for fine hair, your locks will be cropped in such a way that the ends will feather on the face lightly. You can best style this cut using a forward motion with a blow dryer, after which you can add some mousse to the crown and finish the do using a styling brush.
The Pixie Cut - There are two short hairstyles for thin hair that you can use if you have a pixie cut. For a more sophisticated look, you can use a paddle brush to create smooth lines and put your hair close to your skull. On the other hand, you can also use a styling mousse and create a sexy, just-out-of-bed look with your pixie hair cut.
The Bob - The best way to add some volume to thin, fine hair is to go for a bob cut. It can either be the straight bob that singer Rihanna used to wear, or a slightly layered bob that will add texture to your locks. These two short hair styles for fine hair will add the much-needed volume to your hair.
Naturally Curly - Let’s say that you have natural black hair. The easiest way to wear your hair without having to spend too much time in the salon is by styling it in a natural, curly and short hair style. Again, you can go for the rumpled, just out of bed look by styling your curly hair this way and that. Or, you can go for a more romantic, feminine look by taming your locks into a more severe style.
Straight with Layers - Finally, you can add some texture and volume to your fine hair by having it cut in a straight, layered style. No matter which of these short hair styles for fine hair it is that you end up choosing, what’s important is for you to choose one which will make you feel and look your best – so go ahead and try which one will make you feel like the true glam diva that you really are!
